Focus: Such a fundamental aspect of Photography. Badly focused shots are always binned. Get it right in camera then sometimes add blur back in during post processing. But, as photographers, we are very selective about where we want that focus point to be and where and to what degree the blur is allowed. Life has been a bit like that recently..

The other day Mother Duck came walking through camp with nine little 'uns in tow. A photographic moment? Perhaps, seeing as I had the 70-200 still attached, it would be relatively easy, but did I feel like it? I rather like the position of being able to choose whether to create art/capture the moment in time or just enjoy the show with no permanent record to paste around the web. It is a luxury. However... Sometimes when we really want to do something, we just can't. A fact of life really. In fact this may be the only story of many peoples lives. So, may I be grateful when I am eventually able to do those things that I really love to do. My 'eventually' is only usually a few days anyway. Perhaps the key to being able to enjoy what we do often, is to rearrange our lives to suit that. Make the sacrifices, quit the procrastination and I had some time to think today. Waiting for the kids to finish their art lesson I went for a wander along the Katikati Estuary http://www.katikati.co.nz/ There were a few birds, mostly too far away for my 200mm and poor light. The weather was not very pleasant, windy, sunless and pretty drab. It is interesting then, what catches our attention if we take the time to look. I went out determined to find Apparently there is a tropical storm that will show it's face on our weather radar in the next few days. I love living near the beach and watching the slow change over the days as a storm comes from the East or North East. These storms are usually tropical (ish) in origin and therefore far more interesting to me now that I live on the East coast, than the wintery southerly blast we get. The ocean usually Walking The dog along the beach is so therapeutic for my soul. I am very grateful for being able to enjoy this activity each day. Not that I am so very consistent with doing it, but the potential is always there. I had great inspiration today from just getting out there and paying attention to the textures of the shells, the unusual shape and colour of a certain stick or a convoluted shell attached to a piece of dried seaweed. One man's boring is another's inspiration! Home again after the walk and I felt inspired enough to do some painting and drawing, which was squeezed in amongst the usual daily tasks. The afternoon was dedicated to a photographic trip out to Karangahake Gorge. We were scoping it out for and upcoming photography weekend we are holding. Such an interesting place with it's rich history of
This is a B & W infrared conversion shot taken about 3 km away from where I live. I love the beach and no doubt it will feature greatly.
One has to start somewhere. The beginning usually. As our journey progresses if we pay enough attention, things may improve in various areas of our lives. I would love this to be true of my life. Spiritually I would love to see an improvement but practically, most especially with Photography. I have studied it formally to achieve a Diploma in Digital Photography, but quite honestly when I first started to pay attention |
AuthorI am a visual person. I find that surrounding myself in creation, feasting my eyes on what is before me and daydreaming a little is great refreshment for my soul. I also read avidly about trends, techniques and technicalities associated with visual art. When I can, I love assigning large chunks of time responding to what I see and crafting my own art. Here is a place to put that down. Archives
